The Editor Speaks: “I am a Robot. I have no brain. I can only do what I am programmed to do.” GO AWAY!

Colin Wilson

It has been a long time since I have written an Editorial but a very unwelcome incident happened to me this very morning at 9am.

I had received a request last night if I could send urgently a small sum of US$ in cash to my associate iEyeNews US consultant Carol-Ann Rudy.

I had luckily drawn some cash to from my Bank so I said I could.

Carol-Ann had arranged to be by her local Western Union branch at 9am this morning and I rushed to my local Western Union Branch in Fosters Savannah Branch. I had to be quick as I had left my wife, Joan, unattended asleep at our home in Bodden Town. Jo has unfortunately Dementia and has had nine falls over the last twelve months, one where she broke four ribs, and other falls had fractured others. She is 90 years of age whilst I am 81.

I have never used Western Union before but had had an unfortunate reckoning with Moneygram last year and never want to go through that episode again.

I went into Fosters and explained to the lady there that I was aged and never done this before. I gave her the paperwork I thought I had to provide and she said she needed proof I lived here by providing a Utility Bill. Now this ment I had to drive back to Bodden Town and I live right at the very far end. There was also road works in between and the normal ten plus minutes was now almost thirty.

I explained the emergency and the position with my wife and I couldn’t leave her alone twice, I produced my Press Card with my photo plus my Driving license that had not only my photo but my birthdate AND MY ADDRESS.

Answer: “No. Must be a Utility Bill.”

So a Utility Bill to tell Western Union I did reside on Grand Cayman takes preference over any government document that gives not only my address but a photograph as well?

No matter how I pleaded, my age, the urgency. “NO! NO! NO!” Was the reply by not only the lady at the desk but her supervisor. “Those are the rules.”

Heaven help us all when both these ladies will be losing their jobs to robots. And they deserve it because they are supposed to have a brain.

It is exactly like the incident last year here when a man’s life could have been saved after a motor accident right outside a private hospital but the rules were the patient had to be transported to the government hospital over thirty minutes away. The man died before getting there.

God gave us all a brain. If we don’t use it then AI and robots will take us all over and we will deserve it.

Conclusion: Carol-Ann was able to get the money she needed immediately from another source. And IT WAS NOT A ROBOT!!

Imagine – it was a human with a brain and used it.

PS. As for Fosters. They have nothing to do with the running of Western Union but it happened in their store. Do you think I will want to visit there again? I do have other options and I will be sending a copy of this Editorial to them.

I might get a reply….? What’s the betting, IF I do, it will be a R O B O T??!! “I am a Robot. I have no brain. I can only do what I am programmed to do. GO AWAY!”

  1. The banks have become nightmares to deal with. What would happen to those who share a house with someone whose name is on the utility bill. How do people who do not drive or have no passport, ever open accounts?
