The Editor Speaks: Innocent until proven guilty but Bush MUST step down
However, when the person who has been arrested, albeit not charged, for corruption amongst others, is the premier of a country, the ongoing distraction is going to continue unabated for some time.
It will be a major distraction for Cayman Islands Premier, McKeeva Bush, no matter how much he says he has done nothing wrong. More importantly it is going to be a massive distraction for rebuilding this country’s respect, inviting investment, but above all, his own people’s interests and their needs.
Mr. Bush is an elected official of the highest in the land. He is the number one leader in our community and as such he must be beholden to the highest of standards.
This investigation of our Premier has been continuing for a very long time and now he has been arrested, it is almost certain he will be charged. If not, Mr. Bush will be incredibly richer at our expense.
If it is proven he is innocent then he can fight another day without the burden of suspicion and accusing fingers.
Until that time, and for the sake of the Country he says he loves so much, he MUST step down and now.
If he doesn’t he will tear this country apart with his supporters on one side and his accusers on the other.
He stepped down once before and came back a stronger man for it. That should be a lesson he proved to himself.
