The Editor speaks: Is there a vendetta against Catron?

Colin WilsonwebLocal activist, Sandra Catron, finds herself once again the victim of an investigation by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service. This time it is over the alleged misuse of monies allocated by the government’s Nation Building Fund (NBF) to her for training courses.

The RCIPS have confirmed it has received a complaint from the Ministry of Education, Employment and Gender Affairs earlier this month.

Although the RCIPS have not named the individual they are investigating CNS has revealed it is Catron.

It would not be appropriate for me to comment on this particular incident and Catron has given a detailed explanation to CNS about the matter.

However, she made this comment I am going to repeat here:

“At the end of the day it’s no coincidence that the RCIPS continues to find time to launch their personal vendettas against me often going as far as involving themselves in matters the courts eventually deemed as civil.”

So, is there a personal vendetta against her by the RCIPS?

These are the facts to date concerning her run-ins with the RCIPS.

RCIPS have charged her with alleged harassment on an ICT network even though in a recent judicial review the warrant used to search Catron’s office, home, computer, car and seize personal possessions in the case was thrown out after she successfully challenged its legality.

The RCIPS are investigating a Facebook page with which Catron is directly associated but which is now hosted in the US which is naming convicted local sex offenders.

The RCIPS charged Catron with theft of a dog, which she won.

Then there are the problems with her landlord that also involved the RCIPS.

What does give some weight to her complaint that the police have a personal vendetta against her is the many irregularities the new education minister, Tara Rivers, has said her staff have found with the NBF payouts. In particular with the scholarships that were awarded.

Grants were awarded to some of her students with Micro Matrix. It will be interesting if any other investigations are being executed regarding scholarships with others not involving Catron.

If that is not the case, we have more than enough information to come up with an answer.
