If you’re planning to go au natural there’s no better time to do so than on a trip to the Caribbean’s striking coastlines. Whether you’re a nudie newbie or have never quite grown out of taking your kit off at any opportune moment, finding a great nudist beach whilst on holiday in the tropics is simpler than you might think. Here are a few of the most beautiful nudist beaches in the Caribbean to inspire your next trip.

Far from being the seedy or sordid settings often depicted in episodes of The Caribbean Uncovered, there are actually an ample amount of beautiful nudist beaches in the Caribbean that are perfectly civilised and sophisticated. And they aren’t all for couples or singletons looking for some fun in the sun either.

Grande Saline, St. Barths

The sandy shores of St. Barths are just a short island hop from Puerto Rico. Sun worshippers looking for the perfect spot to ditch their swimwear should make a beeline for the secluded Saline beach, the second largest on the island. The 10-15 minute stroll through a meandering rocky path to get to the beach is well worth the effort because this stunning stretch of unspoilt coast is too breathtakingly beautiful to miss. To top it off, the remoteness ensures both privacy and peace and quiet. But it is worth noting there aren’t any facilities here so come well prepared.

Hawksbill Bay, Antigua

There are very few places on earth that can boast a beach for every day of the year, but Antigua’s claim to fame certainly isn’t unfounded. West from the capital city of St. John’s is Hawksbill Bay, home to an incredible sweep of coast that makes up four different beaches. Taking its name from the unusual rock formation that juts out from the sea, Hawksbill Bay houses the only nudist beach on the island. Visitors in search of the nudist enclave should venture to the very last beach, farthest from the road. Bringing your snorkelling gear is a must for those looking to explore the exceptional enclosed coral reef — home to scores of marine life and schools of exotic fish.

Booby Cay, Jamaica

Just off the most westerly tip of Negril lies a small island only accessible by boat. Its name? Booby Cay. Take a glass bottom boat to this stunning isle and marvel at the bountiful tropical marine life, before arriving at the beach for some sand time in the tropical sunshine. Ardent water sports fans will relish the first class snorkelling and scuba diving available here, a result of the calm waters surrounding the island. Or top up your tan with some serious sunbathing, looking out onto paradise ­— after all, Negril does lay claim to being the finest corner of Jamaica. Wrap up your luxurious escape by indulging in some fresh lobsters cooked right on the beachfront.

Orient Bay, St. Martin Island (French side)

With half of the island under French control and half under Dutch, St. Martin Island has a somewhat split personality. Visitors to Orient Bay, on the French side of the island, will discover a slice of coastline that has become a magnet for jetsetters, celebs and thrill seekers. But the beach’s most southerly point is also a destination for nudists. Come nightfall, rock up to Le String beach bar for a refreshing beer, or for something a little more extravagant, try dinner at L’Astrolabe where you can dine poolside, under the stars.

Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba

Located just north of Cuba’s Jardines del Rey (aka the ‘Cuban Keys’), which is part of the UNESCO biosphere reserve, you’ll find the stunning shores of Cayo Santa Maria. This long and pretty stretch of beach is reserved for nudists and provides a perfectly secluded spot and a blissful retreat away from the busy tourist trail. Whilst you’re there, it’s worth taking a detour (fully clothed) to the Cayo Guillermo, where you’ll find its towering sand dunes, which happen to be the tallest in the Caribbean.

Seven Mile Beach, Jamaica

Bon vivants in search of some epicurean pursuits should take a leisurely stroll along seven-mile beach and be treated to some of the finest tropical views and party vibes in the Caribbean. With a picture prefect setting, there are postcard-worthy shots of the crisp white sandy beaches, vibrant azure waters and leafy vegetation that frames the shoreline every step of the way. If you’re not sure where’s best to strip off look for the sandy shores located near the Hedonism or Breezes Grand resorts, which offer a clothes optional policy and won’t attract awkward stares. After a long day at the beach, fill up on some freshly steamed snapper or grilled lobster and rum punch at the famous Rockhouse Restaurant.
