The polls are in: Nevada abolished prison slavery!

From Krysta Bisnauth, Freedom United

The results are in—Nevada has abolished prison slavery!   An overwhelming 60.1% of voters in Nevada said yes to repealing a current provision allowing slavery and involuntary servitude as a punishment for crime.  Just last week in our webinar US Elections 2024: Confronting the legacy of slavery, we spoke with experts about how this vote could reshape the national movement to end all forms of slavery in the U.S. Thanks to our collective advocacy, we’ve reached another milestone. Now, 5 states have voted to abolish all forms of slavery.
But the fight doesn’t stop here.
Take action
For more than 150 years, the U.S. Constitution has trapped the incarcerated in a system of exploitation for cheap or unpaid labor.  It is beyond time to change this. The Freedom United community has been actively working to do just that. Almost a quarter of a million have signed the petition.   If you haven’t already added your name, now is the time. Your voice can help push this movement forward and ensure no state allows forced labor in prisons.
Sign the petition
Let’s build on this momentum together.
In solidarity,Krysta and the team that supports the Freedom United community
