Third repatriation of Cuban Migrants as other Cuban boaters arrive
Cayman island Immigration officials on Friday, 12 April, 2013 carried out the third repatriation of Cuban migrants for 2013.
Four migrants were escorted home by the Department of Immigration’s Enforcement Section, following approval from the Cuban government.
There are plans to return an additional 17 migrants over the next week, which will leave only the two most recent arrivals at the Immigration Detention Centre. This pair are still awaiting processing.
Just hours after the four Cuban migrants were repatriated Immigration officials report that a vessel with 15 male migrants (all first-time arrivals) arrived off Cayman Brac the same night (12).
Three of these disembarked and will be transported to Grand Cayman tomorrow morning (Sunday) for processing. The other 12 males departed after midnight on the vessel destined for Honduras.
