Thrillseekers pay £48,000 for a ticket on board the world’s fastest private jet to experience the Caribbean’s top ‘rollercoaster’ runways
Jet booking company, PrivateFly, has launched its ultimate flight itinerary
Aviation enthusiasts will see the Caribbean’s iconic airport approaches
The 7-day trip leaves from London aboard the coveted Gulfstream G650
They’re the Caribbean’s ‘rollercoaster’ runways – so named because they’re either incredibly short, have a dramatic mountainous approach or involve flying just feet above a beachgoers.
And now (very rich) thrillseekers are being given the chance to touch down at them in the fastest private jet in the world – the Gulfstream G650.
For £48,000 a ticket, PrivateFly, a global booking platform for jet charter, has now launched its ultimate flight itinerary taking passengers to St. Maarten, St Barts and Saba to experience the Caribbean’s most spectacular aeroplane landings.
Catering to what PrivateFly refers to as the ‘AvGeek’ (aviation geek), the customised tour takes aeroplane lovers to experience the world’s most spectacular landings.
The itinerary includes return private jet flights in a Gulfstream G650 – the world’s fastest private jet – to St. Maarten from London, where travellers will experience the infamous low approach over Maho Beach to the island’s international airport.
From there, guests will take part in an exclusive private tour of St Maaten’s Princess Juliana International Airport and visit the Air Traffic Control Tower.
From there, AvGeeks will take a private charter flight to the luxury island of St Barts, where aircraft famously descend from head height down the steep slope to the runway’s touchdown point.
Finally, intrepid flyers will have the opportunity to experience the shortest commercial runway in the world, which measures just 390m, on the tiny island of Saba.
That day trip includes lunch with pilots who regularly take on that route to hear all about such a challenging descent firsthand.
And, of course, no once-in-a-lifetime Caribbean island-hopping holiday comes without seven nights luxury five-star hotel accommodation.
Additional bespoke options may also include flying lessons for existing pilots to learn to land at St Barts and Saba.
But the ultimate AvGeek trip sure doesn’t come cheap – the cost is estimated at £48,000 per person, including the use of a Gulfstream G650.
However, for those looking to cut costs, PrivateFly can also arrange an itinerary without a long-range G650 flight for about £12,000 per person.
ON BOARD THE GULFSTREAM G650
The Gulfstream G650 is the most coveted long range private jet in the world with an equally long waiting list.
The $65 million aircraft flies further (7,500 nautical miles) and faster (max Mach 0.925) than any other business jet.
The high-tech luxury interior includes a full bar and kitchen and accommodates up to 18 passengers, while the cabin also features include digital audio and high definition video equipment, 26-inch widescreen TVs and everything needed for flawless entertaining.
Adam Twidell, CEO of PrivateFly, comments: ‘Aviation tourism is a growing trend amongst luxury travellers who seek out the world’s most extraordinary flying experiences. For an AvGeek the joy is as much in the getting there, as it is in the destination. And the Caribbean offers an unbeatable collection of simply breathtaking landings.
‘Our itinerary takes in flights to the three Caribbean islands of St Maarten, St Barts and Saba, with their unique rollercoaster approaches, plus a Gulfstream G650 private jet to get there. This unique trip would be enticing enough for any traveller, but offers something extra-special for the aviation tourist.
‘As an unashamed AvGeek myself, this is truly the trip of a lifetime for those with a passion for aviation. Combining flights in the world’s most desirable private jet, with some of the world’s most spectacular landings. What could be better?’
