Miss Cayman Cristin Alexander is ready to take on the UNIVERSE!
The Bodden Town Beauty is flying off to San Paulo in Brazil to represent the nation in the prestigious Miss Universe competition.
Miss Alexander, 24, was crowned Miss Cayman in 2010. After flying the flag for the country at the Miss World finals in China.
She will compete against fellow beauty queens from all over the world…. But none from other planets!
Cameras flashed incessantly at the entrance to Owen Roberts International Airport as Miss Cayman Islands, Cristin Alexander checked in for a flight to Miami, the first stage of a journey to the Miss Universe pageant in São Paulo, Brazil.
Cristin, 24, won the category of Best Legs and was the overall winner of Miss Cayman in 2010. She competed in Miss World 2010 finishing
at top 40.
Cristin Alexander recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with the added distinction of making the Dean’s list in her final year at University of Western Ontario.
There are 89 contestants taking part in this year’s pageant, surpassing the previous record of 86. The pageant is possibly the most publicised beauty contest in the world, typically with around 600 million viewers.
“I feel confident. I need some sleep so I’m going to rest on the plane, but I feel good otherwise. It’s taken a lot of work. The last couple of days have been crazy. There was a chance that the costume wasn’t going to come on time and it came yesterday. So, yes, everything’s come together nicely,” Cristin said.
Cristin has a passion for instilling a greater sense of national pride and identity in young Caymanians and hopes to use her involvement in the Miss Cayman competition as a launch pad to achieve this goal. As a strong and independent woman, she aspires to be a good role model who by example, will empower our youth to reach their fullest potential.
Samantha Widmer, one of this year’s contestants in Miss Cayman, was sharing the same flight as Cristin to Miami. “I’m going to buy my gown for this year’s pageant,” she said.
