Trial date for ex-premier not until another 12 months

McKeevaBushap_2424591bCayman Island’s ex-premier, McKeeva Bush, will have to wait until 8th September 2014 for his trial on illegal misuse of a government credit card at casinos and hotels in the Bahamas and the USA.

Last Friday (13) Justice Seymour Panton heard Michael Snape, the crown counsel prosecuting the case against Bush tell the Grand Court the original trial date in March 2014 could not be met. He explained it was because of other commitments of the attorneys involved. Four weeks has been set aside for the hearing.

The ex-premier, who is now opposition leader, is facing eleven different criminal counts relating to the misuse of a government credit card in 2009 and breach of trust by a member of the Legislative Assembly that also involve using the government-issued credit card to withdraw cash from an ATM in various casinos between 2009 and 2012.

Bush has denied all the charges and has insisted he will be completely vindicated.

The crown dropped all his previous charges that related to theft.
