A STRING of relief funds has been set up to assist TCI hurricane victims and Islanders are being urged to help out.

PDM politicians are calling on people to dig deep and contribute to the Hurricane Ike Relief Fund.

Cash and goods donated will go directly towards people suffering the effects of Sunday’s devastating category four storm.

PDM leader Floyd Seymour said: “Many residents have lost their homes and are not financially able to rebuild. They are depending on any assistance available to aid them in this rebuilding process.

“We are launching this appeal to the general public to help the families of the Turks and Caicos Islands restore their lives to some sense of normalcy.

“Please contribute. Every dollar counts; no amount is too small.

“On behalf of the families affected by Hurricane Ike, we would like to say thank you in advance.”

Those wishing to donate items such as canned and non-perishable food, bottled water, baby supplies, blankets, clothing and dry cereal can do so at the specially set up disaster relief centre at the PDM headquarters in Downtown Providenciales.

The centre is open daily from 8am to 7pm.

Providenciales Rotarians have also launched a special Hurricane Relief Fund.

Spokesman John Lawson: “We hope that people who want to help with our recovery but do not know where to turn will let Rotary help.

“We will collect funds and distribute goods in as effective a way as possible.”
