Two Firearms Recovered during Police Investigation Early Sunday Morning, 25 June

Early Sunday morning, 25 June, just before 1am, officers recovered two firearms along the shore in South Sound during a police investigation.  Two men, ages 20 and 27, both of Bodden Town, were arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm and taken into police custody.  One small vessel was also seized.

The guns recovered were two (2) semi-automatic handguns, a 9 mm and a .45 calibre, with 6 rounds of ammunition.

“Despite the convictions and heavy sentences handed down against four individuals just last Friday, with a total of 37 years in custodial time levied by the Court, young men continue to be involved in bringing firearms to our islands,” said Kurt Walton, Deputy Commissioner of Police. “There is an insatiable appetite for firearms in Cayman among certain individuals immersed in a gang culture, and we are constantly faced with the threat this poses for public safety. As the Court said last Friday, we need anyone with information about the movement of firearms to come forward and tell us what they know, even anonymously.”
