UK weather: Caribbean heat vortex to warm Britain to 18C but there’s storms and possibly snow to follow

After near zero temps last week, the Met Office forecast “spring-like” sunny spells with highs up to 14C this weekend and 17C on Monday
Britain is set to be as hot as Abu Dhabi as tropical air from the Caribbean brings highs up to 18C.
But 70mph storms next week and an end-of-winter chill are set to follow.
After 1-3C days last weekend felt below freezing in Baltic windchill, the Met Office forecast “spring-like” half-term sunny spells with highs up to 14C this weekend and an “exceptionally mild” 17C on Monday.
The Met Office today tweeted: “It is set to turn even milder over the coming days thanks to a warm southwesterly airflow – temperatures could reach 17 °C by Monday!”
Up to 18C, 10C above average, was forecast on Monday by The Weather Outlook as“sub-tropical” air arrives, according to MeteoGroup.
Eastern England and Scotland will be warmest while the North-West faces showers and blustery winds.
Britain’s warmest days of the year so far will see temperatures higher than the 14.2C on January 25 at Achfary, Sutherland, the previous high.
But the Met Office warned of “potential cold” returning from later next week, with the risk of snow as late as March.
Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “Air is coming from near the tropics and it will feel spring-like.
“Average February highs are 8-9C but the weekend has 14C as the upper possibility and next week could be exceptionally mild with 16C possible in the east of England and Scotland. To get to 17C would need warmer air.
“The South and East will have the best of the sunshine and drier conditions, with the North-West wetter and windier.
“But from midweek could see gales sometimes in the North, and the cold risk increases at the end of next week and into March, with potential cold weather.
“Snow is not uncommon in March.”
