Uniformed Parade & Service Sunday

Sunday Service Honours Fallen Heroes
Residents and visitors are invited to attend this year’s Remembrance Day Ceremony in honour of those who lost their lives in service during the First and Second World Wars, as well as all Cayman Islands mariners lost at sea.
The church service and parade of uniformed services takes place at 10:45 Sunday morning, November 11, at Elmslie Memorial Church on Harbour Drive.
This annual observance is marked by the United Kingdom and its territories, with similar ceremonies held by allied countries. It commemorates the exact minute that World Wars I and II officially ended, while also honouring victims of subsequent conflicts.
Uniformed organisations, as well as other participants and guests, should be in place by 10:30am at the Elmslie location, which will be blocked to vehicular traffic from Saturday night.
The arrival of the Honourable Acting Premier, Mr. Mike Adam, MBE, JP, will precede a General Salute; then His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE will arrive, followed by the Royal Salute.
Governor Taylor will open the ceremony with the Bidding (of a fond farewell to the fallen) and then at 11:00am two minutes’ silence. This will be followed by the sounding of military instrumental The Last Post.
Officials and members of the public will then lay wreaths at the Cenotaph in the Elmslie courtyard, and at the Seamen’s Memorial across the street. As a special observance this year, wreaths will also be laid in memory of persons lost in aviation incidents.
After the sounding of the reveille, the Act of Worship will begin with a Prayer, and a Hymn – during which an offertory will be collected for the benefit of the Cayman Islands Veterans Association.
Following prayers and the Blessing, the service will round-off with the national anthem, the final march-past, another royal salute and a general salute.
Sunday’s parade participants include the Royal Cayman Islands Police Band, detachments of the Veterans’ Association, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, as well as the Fire and Prison Services.
In addition to groups representing the Lion’s Club of Grand Cayman and the Lion’s Club of Tropical Gardens, there will also be detachments of the Girls Brigade, Scouts, Cub Scouts, Cadet Corps and SDA Pathfinders.
Harbour Drive will reopen to automobile traffic that afternoon.
