It was a wonderful night of good food, dancing and comradeship at the Seafarer’s Hall, Prospect, Grand Cayman last Tuesday (16) for the Cayman Islands Seafarers Association second social of the year. The first one was back in March.

Although there wasn’t quite as many as that first social to welcome new president Ivan Farrington, OMH the hall was quite full and this time there was more space for dancing. And dancing everyone did until an uninvited ‘guest’ sent everyone scampering back to their seats, except for one.

The intruder was a black scorpion that did not last too long as the mighty shoe of our publisher, Joan Wilson, came stomping down on top of it – not once but four times! Joan is not frightened of anyone or anything.

The evening started with guest speaker, Lawyer Steve McField, who spoke about the need to keep the seafaring heritage of the Cayman Islands at the forefront of our history. Younger Caymanians should be encouraged to join, he said, otherwise every year there will be fewer present. This country was founded upon the seas and no one must be allowed to forget it.

The talented musicians from the Back Beat Band were back again to keep the party going and once more they donated their time free.

Even I ‘swung my engine’ so much my knees were hurting.

Thank you Seafarers for another wonderful time – and the food was truly delicious and as Joan said she met friends she hadn’t seen for a very long time. Even that scorpion.

After a sumptuous meal the guests ‘swung their engine’ to the fabulous ‘live’ music from the Back Beat Band.
