United Airlines announce expanded services to Cayman Islands

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (9 July 2015): The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism is pleased to announce that United Airlines will further support its accessibility to Grand Cayman with new and expanded seasonal services out of Chicago and Washington D.C., two key U.S. markets for the destination.

The inaugural route will commence on December 19 and feature nonstop service from O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM). The Saturday-only service will continue through April 30, 2016 providing a convenient winter escape for discerning travelers in the Chicago area. Utilizing a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, flight UA1911 will depart ORD at 10:40 a.m. and arrive to Grand Cayman at 3:40 p.m. The return flight, UA1912 will leave GCM at 12:39 p.m. and arrive to Chicago at 3:44pm.

This winter, United Airlines will also begin flying four times a week from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to GCM. The expanded service will kick-off on December 19 and continue through May 4, 2016. Flights on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday will depart IAD at 12:20 p.m. and arrive to Grand Cayman at 3:49 p.m., while Saturday flights will depart at 8:15 a.m. and arrive to the destination at 11:44 a.m. All return flights will leave GCM at 4:44 p.m. and arrive to Washington D.C. at 8:03 p.m. Additionally, the new flight routes will provide an opportunity for Chicago customers to connect in Washington D.C., allowing even greater flexibility.

“We are so grateful for the continued support of United Airlines to expand connectivity to the Cayman Islands in core U.S. markets such as Chicago and Washington D.C.,” said Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism, Moses Kirkconnell. “The addition of these new routes affirms the Cayman Islands as a preferred Caribbean destination and presents tremendous opportunity to increase visitation and overall brand positivity.”

Director of Tourism, Rosa Harris commented, “We are deeply encouraged by United’s decision to expand service to the Cayman Islands, making it more accessible than ever for consumers during especially high-travel periods. With these new flight options, guests now have more flexibility regarding travel to our beautiful destination, which we hope will continue to encourage consideration and future tourist arrivals as a result.”

“We are delighted to be announcing increased service to the Cayman Islands; the Chicago and Washington D. C. flights complement our existing service from Newark,” said Director of Leisure Sales for United Airlines, Vic Kerckhoff. “Our increased seasonal services will give travelers more flexibility and more choice when flying to the island.”
