UPDATE: Cayman Man Arrested in Relation to Murder
From RCIPS
UPDATE:
Yesterday, 5 October, RCIPS officers arrested a 24-year-old man of George Town, on suspicion of murder, in relation to the murder of Divonte Alejandro Hernandez, which occurred in George Town on the morning of Friday, 29 September.
The man is being held in custody as investigations continue to locate and apprehend the second man involved in the incident.
“The arrest is a positive result, one that we hope provides some reassurance not only to the grieving family of the victim, but also the public”, says Detective Superintendent Peter Lansdown. “However, it is vital we locate and apprehend the second man involved in this tragic incident. The culprit is likely in hiding, which means that members of the community are aiding them to evade the police – this in itself is a crime. If anyone knows anything to do with this incident, and hasn’t yet gotten in touch with the police, now is the time to step up, and do the right thing”.
Police encourage the community to provide information to the Major Incident Room (MIR) on 649 2930. Police would also request that witnesses make themselves known to police so that appropriate measures can be put in place to ensure their safety, as opposed to remaining anonymous.
Officers were present at the scene of the crime this morning to conduct a witness appeal, speaking with members of the public that frequent the area around the same time the murder occurred, on the one week anniversary of the incident.

UPDATE (4 October):
Police can confirm that one man was responsible for shooting the victim in the murder that took place Friday 29 September. The suspect is described as tall and slim, wearing black clothing and a mask. It is believed that a second male was driving the getaway vehicle, a Honda Fit, that police have recovered. The vehicle has heavy (illegal) tint, which is a common tactic employed by criminals.
RCIPS will conduct an anniversary witness appeal in and around the scene of the crime at approximately the time of the offence, 10.00am, on Friday 6 October, in an attempt to locate witnesses who may be passing through the area one week after the crime occurred.
“The murder would appear to have been a targeted attack, aimed specifically at the victim”, says Detective Superintendent Peter Lansdown. “The police understand that the community is concerned and upset by this incident. It’s a terrible loss of life that has left a family without a son, and a young child – who was tragically a witness to the incident – without a father. We ask that the community work with us to help locate and apprehend the culprits responsible. The culprits are out there, and likely in hiding, which means that members of the public are aiding them to evade the police. This in itself is a crime”.
If anyone has any information about the murder, police encourage the community to provide it to the Major Incident Room (MIR) on 649 2930, not through social media channels where it can be misinterpreted and misrepresented. Police would also request that witnesses make themselves known to police so that appropriate measures can be put in place to ensure their safety, as opposed to remaining anonymous.
No arrests have been made as yet, but police are following numerous lines of enquiry and the investigation progresses at pace.
