UPDATE: Fatal collision involving a motorcyclist

Police can now confirm the identity of the deceased in the fatal collision which took place on Monday 23 March, on Hurley Merrin Blvd, involving a black Ducati motorcycle. He is Mario Spirto, age 44, an Italian national living in Cayman.

The RCIPS offers condolences to the family of the deceased.

Fatal Collision Involving a Motorcyclist, 23 March

23rd March, 2020 

Just after 12:10AM today, 23 March, police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre to Hurley Merren Blvd, located between the Red Bay and Chrissy Tomlinson roundabouts; where it was reported that a motorcycle was involved in a collision and the rider was found unresponsive.

The rider was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital by Emergency Medical Services, where he was pronounced dead by an attending doctor. The 44-year-old-man from George Town was traveling east on Hurley Merren Blvd when he lost control of his black Ducati motorcycle, causing the collision to occur. No other vehicles were involved in this collision.

The matter is under investigation by the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit. The east bound lanes on Hurley Merren Blvd were closed as a result of the investigation, but have since been opened to the public.
