US: Biden concedes New Hampshire, heads to South Carolina
By John Gizzi From Newsmax
In a move that stunned supporters, Joe Biden canceled his primary night party in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Instead, Biden will fly to South Carolina and campaign hard for its Feb. 29 primary.
The former vice president and his wife, Jill, will be in Columbia, South Carolina, for a 9 p.m. launch party. They will speak to volunteers in the Granite State by livestream.
With supporters privately telling Newsmax that Biden would place third or fourth in New Hampshire, the former vice president reportedly decided to focus his energy on the state long considered his “firewall.”
Should Biden’s current double-digit lead in South Carolina drop and he does not meet expectations in the primary, there would obviously be pressure on him to drop out of the presidential race.
After coming in fourth in the Iowa caucuses and faring poorly in New Hampshire polls, Biden has sought to recast the early states as one big group, including Nevada and South Carolina.
