US: Palm Beach Judge expected to extend County’s recount deadline
From Newsmax
A judge in Florida is expected to extend the deadline for the ongoing recount by an additional five days in Palm Beach County.
The Palm Beach Post reported a circuit court judge in Leon County would likely issue the order Tuesday.
The current deadline to have the recount finished is Thursday at 3 p.m. ET.
Included in the recount extension for Palm Beach County would be the races for Senate, governor, agriculture commissioner, and State House District 89.
The Post reported the extension will come after a lawsuit was filed by Democrat Jim Bonfiglio, who is trailing Republican Mike Caruso by 37 votes. He asked the judge put his race first since it would take less time to recount, and the judge responded by saying the deadline for all four aforementioned races would be extended.
Republican Rick Scott, the current governor of Florida, leads incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., in the Senate race. Former Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., leads Democrat and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum in the gubernatorial race. The races are so tight, however, recounts were triggered.
Palm Beach and Broward Counties are lagging behind as they conduct the recount, and corruption has been alleged in both.
