Airport law enforcement found condoms, a drug for erectile dysfunction, and brand new computer tablets among other items in baggage bound for Belize.

FLORIDA, United States, Thursday March 20, 2014 – A veteran American teacher used Facebook to chat and plan sexual encounters with underage girls in Belize, according to US authorities.

David Wendel Thompson, who taught at Centennial Middle School in Dade City, was arrested and charged with online enticement of minors, a federal offense.

A criminal complaint filed by the US Attorney’s Office said Thompson, 48, had sexually explicit conversations with a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old from Belize last month. A cybercrimes unit with Homeland Security received the information about the instant messages around March 12, according to the complaint.

Extracts from the conversations revealed a different side of the quiet and private social studies teacher.

He reportedly said to one of his alleged victims: “ok then I will make sure u always have money…. and I want to always be special to u so let me b your first.”

Thompson also reportedly said: “i thought u were 15 but then u said 13.  which is it”

“Im 13 but ppl tink im 15,” the alleged victim replied.

In conversations with the other alleged victim, Thompson reportedly said, “I just want to be ur first thats my present so I can b special to u” to which the 15-year-old responded, “ok you will be.”

Thompson also said: “ok we need to start thinking how u can see me,” and “i bought my plane ticket today,” among other more explicit messages.

Agents found pictures of the underage girls in his account. On February 26, he told one of them: “great by the way clear our messages on your computer b4 u go.”

Thompson checked in for his 4:50 a.m. flight from Tampa International Airport to Belize City, with a layover in Miami, on Friday. Law enforcement searched his checked bag and found condoms, a drug for erectile dysfunction, two brand new computer tablets and fliers for a hotel in Belize.

He was allowed to fly to Belize, where he was refused entry, and federal agents nabbed him on his return.

Thompson has already travelled to Belize nine times since June 2011, according to authorities.

He made his initial court appearance on Monday in Miami and is currently being detained there.

If convicted, Thompson could face anywhere from 10 years to life behind bars.
