US TV Sitcom star and veteran actor to attend Cayman Islands Film Festival
CBS Sitcom Star Reno Wilson to attend CayFilm Cayman International Film Festival
Fans of the CBS Monday night hit comedy series “Mike and Molly” will be familiar with actor Reno Wilson who plays Officer Carl McMillan alongside Emmy-award winning actress Melissa McCarthy and Billy Gardell, and on 18 June they can meet Wilson who will be in Grand Cayman for the CayFilm Cayman International Film Festival.
Wilson will be on island to attend the screening of “The Week”, a comedy film in which he stars that will make its Caribbean debut at the Festival.
The 46-year old New York native made his television debut as Theo’s best friend, Howard, on the legendary television series, “The Cosby Show”. He has since starred and guest-starred in dozens of television series, including “Heist”, Blind Justice”, and the critically acclaimed Showtime series “The Hoop Life”.
Wilson can be seen in the upcoming feature films “Bolden”, in which he plays legendary jazz icon Louis Armstrong; “Officer Downe” with Kim Coates; and
“Tooken” opposite Lee Tergesen and Margaret Cho. Other movie credits include “Mighty Joe Young”, “Rough Draft”, “Fallen”, “Crank” and “White Hype”.
He is also an accomplished voice-over artist who, most notably, gave voice to the Decepticon “Mudflap” in the blockbuster film “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” and later voiced the Autobot “Brains” in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”, a role which he reprised in the latest installment of the “Transformers” franchise.
Veteran actor Wes Studi to attend CayFilm Cayman International Film Festival
Unlike many actors who begin performing at an early age, Studi discovered acting later in life. After serving his country in the US Army and fighting in Vietnam, he worked in the newspaper business and then became a professional horse trainer. In 1983 he began acting at The American Indian Theatre Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and first took the professional stage in 1984. His debut on the big screen was Powwow Highway in 1989 but it was his 1990 terrifyingly memorable portrayal of a Pawnee warrior in Dances with Wolves and his performance in the role of Magua in Michael Mann’s The Last of the Mohicans (1992) that put him on the map.
Today, Studi has taken a national leadership role in the promotion and preservation of indigenous languages, acting as the spokesperson for the Santa Fe-based Indigenous Language Institute, and working as a language consultant on several films. He’s also active in encouraging the next generation of filmmakers and performers, providing mentorship and participating in apprenticeship programs.
