USA: Accidental Shooting Statistics
From AMMO.COM
Accidental shootings, although extremely rare, tend to dominate headlines around the country. We were curious and explored the hard data behind these types of shootings and discovered many interesting facts.
Accidental shootings have decreased drastically over the last two decades and affect very few Americans. If you’re a little short on time, here are a few of the highlights:
- It is very rare for someone to lose their life in an accidental shooting. Fewer than 1% of shooting deaths are attributed to accidents.
- On average, there are more than 30,000 accidental shooting injuries. Only 2.3% of all accidental shooting injuries result in death.
- Americans are more likely to die in other types of accidents. Only 0.2% of all accidental injury-related deaths involve a firearm.
Despite media and lobbyists’ claims, accidental shootings rarely occur and are easily avoidable with care and firearm knowledge.
