Veterans welcome Canadian friends

Patricia Varga (right) presents Charles Adams with a special plaque of appreciation

The Cayman Islands Veterans Association (CIVA) were pleased to welcome the Dominion President of the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) Mrs. Patricia Varga, and the RCL Secretary, Mr. Brad White, at the CIVA headquarters George Town.

Mrs Varga and Mr White met with Cayman veterans, and observed at first hand the problems facing some of the very old Caymanians and the way in which the Association is able to help meet their needs.

Mrs Varga explained to CIVA members how members of the RCL supported veterans spread over many different islands in the Caribbean:

“We support veterans on about 15 islands with a monthly stipend, and it does make the difference between, sometimes, no meals a day and one meal a day, so we are very proud of that.

“We are very proud of our association with the Cayman Islands Veterans Association as well.  We would like to thank you so much for making us so welcome, it’s just been wonderful.

“We’ve just come from Belize and visited quite a few veterans and widows there as well. Every year we go to different locations,” she said.

The visitors acknowledged the continuous commitment made by Mr. Charles Adams O.B.E. in his position as Honorary Secretary for 27 years by presenting him with a special plaque.
