Vote YES for One Man One Vote
Listening, with some dismay, to a pro OMOV advert on one of the local radio stations the young lady said how in East End they had the benefit of knowing who their one MLA is and he is accountable to them and cannot push the person’s problem onto someone else representing them.
That, of course, is not quite correct although I understand what she is trying to convey. Unfortunately she is conveying exactly what the “No” campaigners are saying in their ads. Residents in the districts, like George Town and West Bay, will be losing THREE votes they have enjoyed for years. Their district is being divided up causing a division in their district. This is, therefore, supported to some extent by the pro OMOV advert.
The very important missing link is that districts like George Town will NOT be losing any such representation. Both districts will enjoy exactly the same number of MLA’s representing their district. The only difference, and for the better, is that the district will be divided up so that YOU, in your direct neighbourhood, will have someone you will know. He will be aware of the
You are not, therefore, losing anything but gaining from it.
I will continue writing on this same topic in our next edition.
It is a very hard road to tread for the OMOV campaign to succeed. It needs 7,582 YES votes. Be one of them.
Put the Cayman Islands in the 21st century. The OMOV is fairer and that is why certain politicians are campaigning heavily against it. You cannot ride on the back of someone’s coat tails to become elected. Only the best man will win.
Don’t we all need the best man to succeed?
