Cayman Islands Football Association President Jeff Webb has been appointed Chairman of the Caribbean Football Union’s Normalisation Committee.

The committee has been set up after recent challenges within the organisation that resulted in the resignation of controversial FIFA Vice President Jack Warner.

Webb – as revealed in iNews Cayman yesterday – is also the hot favourite to eventually replace Warner as President of CONCACAF, the Confederation of North Central American and Caribbean  Association Football.

Yesterday, as he helped make the draw for the Cayman FA Youth Cup, Webb said the crisis within Caribbean football has been “beyond any he could imagine”.

He said: “I love football, I love the game and last year’s been an incredible year for Caribbean football for CONCACAF (the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) and we’ve had a crisis beyond any we could imagine or even envision and the game has been at a standstill since May, nothing has happened.

“We’ve found ourselves where the Safety Executive Committee could not function, could not conduct football regionally, so I pretty much stayed out of it in the beginning, but I started to get involved in it, and made certain recommendations to resolve the constitutional crisis with the helps of Bruce Blake and Maples & Calder.

“We started out with a President’s meeting and then went full into an extraordinary congress which legalised the decisions that we’ve made so now we have a normalisation committee which is going to focusing on restructuring and creating a new chapter for Caribbean football.

“I’ve been asked to be the Chairman. We’re looking at the business model of football throughout the Caribbean and we’ve established various task forces. One is the legal task force which will give us new structures. We’ve established timetables for those new structures and elections based on those new structures. Of course we’ve established a financial model which will hopefully bring some clarity, going forward to be sustainable.”

In addition, eight other football administrators have been appointed to oversee the operations of the CFU Normalisation Committee.

The Normalisation Committee scheduled two upcoming meetings. The first meeting will be held in Havana, Cuba on February 2, 2012 and the second meeting in Bridgetown, Barbados on March 4, 2012.
