West Bay ladies won’t give up on Dart road closure – UPDATE
UPDATED: Despite losing their fight in their legal challenge to the closure of part of the West Bay Road by Dart, the four West Bay ladies, Alice Mae Coe, Annie Multon, Ezmie Smith and Betty Ebanks, are not giving up. They are appealing the Grand Court’s decision in February this year that their action was out of time.
The whole dispute is over a deal the previous United Democratic Party government led by McKeeva Bush deal with Dart that included land swaps and the construction of the Esterley Tibbett’s highway extension into West Bay. This created beachfront property on Dart-owned land on a small stretch of Seven Mile Beach.
This stretch of road has been in use by the public for over 100 years.
In the Cayman Grand Court on Monday (18) it was conformed the West Bay ladies’ appeal will be heard next November. They were also pleased to learn the attorney general’s chambers will not be seeking its costs for the appeal even if the ladies lose. This is significant as the ladies are using their own money to fight the road closure, although the road closure is only part of the appeal.
