WestStar officials ink an exclusive deal to carry the FIFA World Cup 2014, and this year’s Confederations Cup.
FIFA’s Confederations Cup, dubbed the ‘Festival of Champions,’ is considered a preview to the World Cup. The Confederation Cup started in 1997 and is held every four years, the year before the FIFA World Cup. According to FIFA, the tournament gives top teams from each continent a chance to represent their region on the world stage.
The FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil is expected to pull in a global audience over 715 million and WestStar has the exclusive broadcast rights for the Cayman Islands. It’s all being broadcast on Cayman’s only local, free-over-the-air broadcaster – Cayman 27.
WestStar Broadcast General Manager, April Cummings says, “Football is the number one sport in the world and if anything Cayman’s interest in football has increased with Caymanian Jeff Webb playing such an important role in the world football scene,” adding, “We are just really excited that we were able to get the rights for these tournaments and offer them to the people of the Cayman Islands for free.”
