What a Biden administration will mean for IP
The four years of the Trump presidency have not been quiet in terms of IP and policy, domestically or on the international stage. Reforms at the Iancu-led USPTO, including to the PTAB, as well as significant changes in the approach to FRAND/SEP issues at the DoJ, have been welcomed by many patent owners; while IP appropriation and theft have been center stage in the worsening U.S.-China trade relationship. Although not all the votes have been counted – and some doubts remain over the final outcome – it seems as if the U.S. may now be transitioning to a new administration led by Joe Biden. If that comes to pass, could IP policy take a different turn? This will be a key subject for discussion at IAM’s IP 2020, being held online from November 17 to 19. Join panels of high-level decision makers and policy experts as they delve deeper into what the IP priorities of a new Biden administration, or a second-term Trump presidency, will be – and how these will affect patent owners and their advisers.
