Guest Writer Terry Ward is on the road so much traveling for assignments, so it’s no surprise she particularly loves a hotel that offers the comforts of home (and then some). She dropped me a line from Grand Cayman this week, where she’s staying at the Cotton Tree luxury boutique hotel. Here’s what she had to report so far from her stay:

I’m going to go ahead and claim the bed at Cotton Tree as the most comfortable one I’ve ever slept in, but there’s so much to do on the island (especially in the way of dining and water sports) that I do manage to drag myself out of it at a respectable hour each morning. I’m loving this hotel because of all the homey touches.

My room is actually a cottage with two bedrooms, a full kitchen and living room. The kitchen came stocked with organic coffee and tea, cereals and juice, and every morning someone comes to deliver a basket of fresh baked breads and croissants and fresh fruit salad. Each of the four plantation-style “cottages” here (mine, pictured, is the lovely Thatch http://www.caymancottontree.com/cottages/luxury-cottages.aspx) can sleep four people and has private access through seagrape-covered dunes to the beach. There’s a shared pool area sheltered by palms with day beds and a hot tub.

I’m starting my day with coffee on my patio overlooking the ocean, and tonight the property’s chef (who puts on an authentic Caymanian Fish Fry here on a regular basis) is going to whip up some appetizers in my kitchen so I can enjoy sunset with a taste of the Caymans’ seafood bounty. I might never leave this place!
