News Americas, WASHINGTON, D.C., Fri. Aug. 12, 2016: World Bank data compiled from the ILO (International Labor Organization) shows that one third of the world’s 1.8 billion young people aged ages 15-24 are neither employed, educated, nor trained. The Caribbean region is not exempt from this crisis. So where in the Caribbean are the most unemployed youth?

1: The Dominican Republic
The Spanish Caribbean nation of the DR leads the region with the highest youth unemployment rate at over 31 percent.

2: Jamaica
The second nation in the Caribbean with the highest youth unemployment is Jamaica. The ILO’s latest data says there is 30.5 percent of youth unemployed in the nation that gave the world reggae.

3: Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is grappling with an economic crisis and its youth is feeling the impact indeed. The Caribbean U.S. territory has a youth unemployment rate of almost 28 percent, making it the third highest in the region.

4: Barbados
The nation with the fourth highest level unemployment in the Caribbean is the Eastern Caribbean nation of Barbados. The youth unemployment rate there is put at 26.8 percent according to the ILO data.

5: Guyana
The fifth highest youth unemployment in the region is being experienced by the South American CARICOM nation of Guyana where the youth unemployment rate is 23.8 percent.

6: Belize
The Central American nation of Belize rounds out the list with World Bank and ILO data showing there is a whopping 22 percent youth unemployment in that CARICOM nation.
