Norman Lee vanished seven months ago in the Cayman Islands.
The FBI is getting involved in the seven-month-old case of a missing Weymouth man in the Cayman Islands.
Norman Lee, a 47-year-old comic book artist, was snorkeling with his wife about 250 feet from shore on March 5 when the two were separated. He was not seen again.
At the time of his disappearance, it was reported that the currents were very strong. Cayman Police told the Patriot Ledger that the reef where the couple was swimming is about 400 to 500 yards from a large ocean-floor drop that goes down for several thousand feet.
His wife made it to shore and filed a missing persons report.
The search for Lee ended on March 9, and officials switched gears to recovery mode, but have come up empty handed.
FBI spokeswoman Kristen Setera confirmed that the FBI is assisting the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service in their investigation, but declined any further comment because the investigation is ongoing.
The FBI would not comment on whether or not foul play might be a factor in Lee’s disappearance.
A Royal Cayman Islands Police Service spokesman said that the marine unit, volunteer divers, helicopters, Department of Environment boats and volunteer private boats patrolled the area on March 7, two days after Lee went missing.
“There is quite a current out there, which has taken us quite a ways out to sea,” Richard Connolly of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service told Cayman 27 News. “So it may be that, the gentleman, we may not find him again.”
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service did not immediately respond to phone calls made on Tuesday.
Lee was a 20-year veteran of the DC and Marvel comics world, inking works for “The Avengers,” “Spider-Man,” “Iron Man,” and “X-Men,” as well as other well-known comic series.
