Your New York Fashion Week assignment

By Krysta Bisnauth, Freedom United

Target: The fashion industry When: New York Fashion Week Problem: It’s stitched with forced labor.
Take action

Have you been following the craziness of New York Fashion Week? The glitz, the glamour, the endless style inspiration — it’s enough to make any fashion lover’s heart race.

But as someone who has literally taken to the streets to protest this industry, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of frustration and urgency underneath all the excitement.

You see, the truth is that many of the biggest, most profitable fashion brands we love are still deeply tied to forced labor. Brands like Urban Outfitters, Uniqlo, Nike, Zara and many more are profiting off the systematic exploitation and abuse of Uyghur people in China.

I know, it’s a lot to process. I mean, when you’re out shopping for a new outfit, the last thing on your mind is whether some poor soul was forced to make it, right? But that’s the harsh reality we’re facing.

Do something about it

Independent reports have confirmed the Chinese government is orchestrating this horrific forced labor system on a massive scale.[1] Hundreds of thousands, if not more, Uyghur people are being held against their will in detention camps and factories across the country. All because of their ethnicity and faith.

It’s an absolute nightmare. And the saddest part is, the clothes you and I love might just be stitched with the blood, sweat, and tears of those being exploited.

Can we count you in?

When we stand together and raise our voices, we make change happen.

Countries are tightening their borders against forced labor goods and companies are being forced to cut ties with Uyghur forced labor or lose access to profitable markets. Some are even taking real steps to clean up their supply chains. So, we know the pressure works.

That’s why I’m reaching out to you now. The fight isn’t over, and we need your help to keep the pressure on.

Will you join me in taking the next step?

Act now

Together, you and I can build a future where no one’s suffering is sewn into the clothes we wear. Let’s make some serious noise and force these brands to do better. I’m in this with you — what do you say?

In solidarity,
