Youth workers receive warm thank you at special reception
There was a big thank-you to all Cayman’s youth workers during a special reception at the Marriott Beach Resort.
Present was Deputy Governor (Designate) Franz Manderson, National Hero, Sybil McLaughlin, and National Youth Commission Chairman Jenny Manderson.
The reception was filled with workers who had laboured tirelessly over many years for Cayman’s youth.
The occasion was part of the regional celebration of Caribbean Youth Day (Friday 30 September).
Jennifer Manderson said: “So to the members of the service clubs, the career and youth workers, the youth and community volunteers, everybody who works with the youth, this evening is just to say we appreciate your work and your contribution. You provide an invaluable service to the future leaders of the country.
“Let’s reflect on the theme of Caribbean Youth Day: ‘Seeing the future through the eyes of our youth,’ and as we do that, let’s hope that we can continue to work together to move away the dark clouds that hang over Cayman now.”
Minister of Youth Mark Scotland encouraged other companies to follow the example of Superior Autos in setting up apprenticeship programmes.
“By getting a young person to work for you through an apprenticeship programme you can learn a lot more about that young person than any resume or application form can ever tell you,” he said.
Entertainment came from The Weslyan Christian Academy’s musical ensemble, a dance troupe called “The Acid Chicks,” and a very talented teenage singer songwriter, Ashley.
