YUDP spreads yuletide cheer
Members of the Young United Democratic Party (YUDP) were joined by Ministers Hon Mike Adam and Hon Mark Scotland in spreading some Yuletide cheer at the Pediatric Ward of the Cayman Islands Hospital on Christmas Eve.
YUDP President Richard Christian said, “We wanted to do this visit on Christmas Eve because while a lot of us are busy buying gifts and doing last minute shopping for the holidays, there are those who will be spending their Christmas ill and in the hospital, and unfortunately some of those are children. So we wanted to bring some joy to them by inviting Santa and giving away some gifts.”
The toys were bought by donations from members of the public. The YUDP is the youth arm of the UDP, and is for young people between the ages of 18 and 35.
“Our aim is to get young people involved in politics and we’ve done a number of community projects,” Mr Christian said.
Earlier in 2011 YUDP members got together to plant some trees in the yards of the Government-owned rental housing around Jose’s gas station, on Crewe Road, and the group has been busy with other projects too:
“About 3 weeks ago we took the recent graduates from the Passport2Success programme to the Kings Sports Centre for an evening of bowling. We also took the girls from the Francis Bodden Girls home there, who went roller skating” Mr. Christian said.
